Vancouver’s Punjabi Market on Unceded Musqueam Land: Reviving Community Through Art

Oct 14 2021

Event Details

Where: Virtual
Date: October 14, 2021
When: 6:00 - 7:30 PM

This project is curated by the Indian Summer Art Society’s Indian Summer Festival. The project is partly a land acknowledgment to the Musqueam Nation, on whose unceded territory the Punjabi Market sits.

Through bold, colourful street banners portraying traditional Indigenous and Punjabi patterns, designs, and symbols, it paves the way for revitalizing the Punjabi Market. The Punjabi Market was once North America’s largest South Asian market hub.

Ultimately, the art created by Debra and Jag encompasses the Indian Summer Art Society’s belief “in the transformative power of the arts, and their ability to offer society’s most renewable resource: hope”.

Registration required.
