Rural municipalities, employers had said that they faced labour crunch without extension.
The B.C. government is allowing rural employers to retain existing temporary foreign workers (TFWs) for an additional year, opting in to part of a federal expansion announced last month.
In March, the federal government announced that rural employers would be allowed to have up to 15 per cent of their workforce be low-wage temporary foreign workers until March 2027 — if provinces opted in.
