Fraser Valley Regional Library – Muriel Arnason Library Updates

Posted on: June 30, 2020

Summer Reading Club: This year’s FVRL SRC has moved online. As always, the goal of Summer Reading Club is to promote reading for pleasure at any age, to help maintain or improve school-aged reading levels over the summer and to encourage families and friends to share the reading experience. There is a Summer Reading Club for everyone, from babies (Read to Me) to adults. Progress is tracked each week, and special draws and programs provide extra incentive for summer-long engagement. Visit FVRL’s SRC page to register, download a reading record and get started! Those who prefer a physical reading record can pick one up by joining the FVRL Express line at any FVRL library.

FVRL Express – Click, Pick, Go: FVRL Express is a contactless service that offers customers a physically-distanced way to pick up library holds and to return items at all FVRL locations. As always, customers can place a hold on any item in the FVRL catalogue. Once the item has been processed, a “Ready for Pick-up” notice will be sent out by email. Customers can then pick up their holds at their local library from Monday to Saturday between 10:00 am and 5:00 pm. For more information, please visit our FVRL Express page.

Online Services and Programming: If you are a resident of one of our member municipalities and don’t already have a Fraser Valley Regional Library card, sign up online for an eCard and get 24/7 access to our digital collections at Find eBooks, audiobooks, streaming movies and TV, magazines, eLearning and other resources for all ages through popular eContent providers like Ebsco, OverDrive, RBdigital, Acorn TV, Kanopy, Mango Languages and Engage with FVRL on social media and find links to online programming, including Babytime and Storytime, by searching for ReadLearnPlay on Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, and Twitter.

Talk to Library Staff: for anything from a quick question to in-depth reference help, advice on what to read or help with downloading eBooks, you can connect with library staff through the Questions link on our website or by phoning your library during opening hours, currently most of our libraries 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Saturday (excluding holidays). Please consult the Locations pages on our website to find contact information and opening hours for each FVRL library.

Library Champions Project: Due to the current situation, the NewToBC has planned to run the Library Champions Project online, and the training sessions will be offered virtually on Zoom. Our Langley/TOL LCP will start in the mid of September. The details will be shared soon.

In brief, the Library Champions project is a part of a larger NewToBC initiative that is funded by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada. It’s a wonderful volunteer opportunity for the newcomers. Anyone 19 or over who is a permanent resident, but not yet a Canadian citizen, and is enthusiastic about volunteering in the community is eligible for project.

Langley Canada Day: This year, there will be virtual Canada Day celebration, and the performances will include special storytimes and a SRC presentation by our library’s staff. For details, please visit:
