Support Teen Programming @Burnby Library

Posted on: May 7, 2022

Since 2014, Burnaby teens have been taking part in Julia’s Studio, a popular series of programs that inspire and support creativity and the arts. Sessions include traditional artistic mediums such as drawing, painting and writing, and non-traditional mediums focusing on topics like astrology, tarot, self-care and mindfulness.

The program is named after Julia Nelson, a BPL Teen Services Librarian. Julia left an indelible mark on our library and the community she served as a dedicated advocate for young adults. Julia lost her life after a six-month battle with leukemia in 2013.

We are grateful for the generosity of donors whose contributions have helped to fund Julia’s Studio and keep Julia’s legacy alive. This year, donations toward Julia’s Studio will be doubled thanks to the Nelson family, who will be matching donations up to a total of $2,500.

This allows us to run an expanded number of teen programs, and increase opportunities for teens to make peer connections, take part in community engagement and develop abilities and talents to nurture their creative endeavors and passions.

Make a donation to the Julia Nelson Trust fund today.
