Find Books and Resources in Your Language at Your Local Public Library in BC

Newcomers are delighted to discover that libraries offer materials in different languages including books, music, newspapers, magazines, and online resources. To make your search even easier, we have created an easy search menu on the NewToBC website to help you find which libraries offer these items in your language.

Finding a Book in Your Language is as Easy as 1, 2, 3!

  1. Finding a Book in Your Language is as Easy as 1, 2, 3!Using the drop-down menu, choose your language of choice, then select a city. If there are materials in your language, you will see a list of libraries to choose from.
  2. You can click on the grey exclamation mark icon for more information about the library
  3. Click on the book icon under the map for more information about this library collection. The book icons will show the collection size for each library.

If your particular library does not have the materials you are looking for, you can ask for an ‘interlibrary loan’! Using our ‘interlibrary loan’ service allows you to easily request books from other library locations.

Here Are a Few Libraries To Kick Start Your Book Search

Find Books and Resources in Your Language at Your Local Public Library in BCIn the search for Chinese materials at the Richmond Public Library, you will see that 4 separate libraries offer large collections. Looking closer at their collection details, you will find materials in books, ebooks, newspapers, magazines, journals, and more. You can now, confidently, head to the Richmond Public Library’s website to search this information. With a large collection of Chinese materials at the Richmond Public Library, you will find it easy to access everything by clicking on the ‘Borrow’ tab at the top of the page and selecting the ‘Chinese Collection 中文收藏.’

If you search for Farsi materials in North Vancouver, you would find that there is a large collection of materials at the North Vancouver City Library with books, DVDs, magazines, eNewspapers and more. You can find these materials by clicking on ‘MyNVCL’ and selecting ‘Search the Catalogue’ from the dropdown menu. Heading over to the city of Surrey, you will find that the Strawberry Hill branch of the Surrey Libraries offers a large collection in Punjabi. Select ‘My Account’ at the top of the webpage and select the ‘Advanced Search’ option to filter down your search.
